MWADIA

Fiction / 2K / Portugal, Mozambique

Mwadia Malunga lives cut off from the world in Antigamente, beside her ghost husband, Zero Madzero, in an existence suspended between life and death. Their fragile harmony is shattered when a falling star uncovers, in a sacred forest, a statue of Our Lady missing one foot, a chest of manuscripts, and the remains of the Portuguese missionary Gonçalo da Silveira. From that moment on, Zero begins to bleed endlessly — a sign that spirits from the past are demanding reparation.
In order to save him, Mwadia returns to her native village, Vila Longe, carrying the sacred statue with her. This journey forces her to confront childhood memories, painful family ties, and a community that stages an exotic version of Africa to please visiting foreign anthropologists.
Amid mysterious deaths, violence, superstition, and rituals, the boundary between the living and the dead grows increasingly blurred. Mwadia must find a place of redemption — for the saint, for Zero, and for herself.
