PEOPLE AND POWER is an attempt to portray a population at a defining moment in the history of MOZAMBIQUE, a country that just celebrated five decades of Independence: the 2024 presidential election. Amidst a tense political campaign, the film unveils how the country grapples with a severe political crisis. FRELIMO, the party in power since 1975, is losing the trust of a population, increasingly disillusioned by widening inequality, systemic corruption, and the ongoing lack of freedom of expression.
In a direct cinema style echoing the spirit of the documentaries in the post-revolution era in Portugal and Mozambique, we journeyed across the country capturing its landscapes and its population, giving voice to the people and listening closely to their reflections on the present and their expectations for the future.
